THAT WAS EMBARRASSING: Pathetic and demoralizing, with side of insult. After the huge laid egg, coach Philbin's statements were as predictable as his game plan; 'it starts with me' and 'we ought not point fingers.'
Ten obvious observations:
Offense - 1. A marginal offensive line only becomes that much worse without Branden Albert. 2. Lazor's offense, especially early in the game, is too predictable and facilitates easy one possession-and-outs, assuring the team will play the rest of the game in catch-up mode. Speaking of catch, 3. Jennings and Stills need to catch the next bus out of town. They are dropping too many balls. First round pick, Parker needs to start and play often. Jennings and Stills are not producing like Mathews and Landry and Parker needs to show why he was the team's first pick. Also, 4. Lazor, run the freaking ball already! And while you're at it, roll out Tannehill away from pressure. It's not as if you've got an impenetrable wall!
Defense - Similar to the rigid mindset Bill Lazor seems to embrace, 5. Kevin Coyle inexplicably refuses to move his most potent chess piece around the line. His current approach only facilitates how opposing coaches will defend Suh, who routinely gets two, even three guys on him. 6. BTW, if there are two guys on Suh, what are Mitchell and Shelby doing? 7. Also, and on that side of the field, why is McCain playing so far away from the receiver? Is he that vulnerable to getting beat? My goodness, during the past three games opposing quarterbacks are just fixated on playing on the Dolphin's right side of the field. 8. Having their best players (by position) all on the defensive left side of the field (Grimes, Suh and Wake) produces an opposing game plan that only targets the right side. Coyle needs to apply better balance.
Head Coach: Enough has been said about this subject already. 9. Philbin seems incapable of producing effective game-plans and performing any "on-the-fly" game adjustments. Losing inevitably erodes confidence, and once a coach reaches a point where his players tune him out, it's pretty much over. 10. The call then comes, however painful it may be, to start the cycle all over again. Once again Dolfans get to watch multiple years: revamping, rebuilding, re-orgainzing. All that is associated when one sets out to assemble a new administration.
DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: Only a handful of games remain to see who makes it into post-season play. In the National League, only the Mets have clinched their division, with the Cardinals and the Pirates in a close race for their division. Meanwhile, the Dodgers seem poised to clinch the West, while the Cubs wait to see who they will matchup with in their Wild Card game, between the Cards and Pirates.
The American League is a bit more unsettled, as only the Royals have clinched their division. The Blue Jays do seem to have a hold on the East, while the Rangers seem likely winners of the West. Wild Card probable, Yankees have to wait, perhaps to the last game of regular season to see who they face between the Astros, Angels or Twins.
OC VISITS JIMBO: Watched the game over at Jimbo's house. Here he is flailing his samurai walking stick while wishing to whack coach Philbin just once over his head. Jimbo, was the perfect host, having pizza and plenty of cold beer at the ready. He made the agony of watching what soon developed into an ugly game more palatable, providing "high-fives" whenever the Dolphins actually did something good...What were they...like three times, Jimbo? btw, hope your wife is feeling better, and thanks again for having me over.
Jimbo really is a bad ass!

Jimbo !!! what's up buddy?..now we also know what U look like..nice that you guys got together to watch the "debacle"..
Posted by: Fzb3346 | 09/28/2015 at 12:29 PM
I agree with you guys on a couple of issues, if the Janitor gets canned then who are we going to get to replace him now?...Coyle?..no thank you, Lazor?..he doesn't make my toes tingle either..no gents we are stuck.
NOW...let's fast track to the end of the year, Ross does the right thing and gets rid of him, then what?..does Ross hires the new coach?..and leaves Tannenbaum and Hickey in place?>.not the best scenario, If Ross wants to keep Tannenbaum and Hickey he needs to get out of the way and let them hire their guy...If not then Ross needs to clean house including Tannenbaum and Hickey and start new..
either way we are fuck since it means another 4 yrs of mediocrity..

Kazaam.
Who knew that you also played the ocarina. ..........
LOL
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/28/2015 at 12:46 PM
Either way, he's never been an accurate passer from the pocket, only on the move. If there's anything capping how far Miami can go this year it's the quarterback, not the coach.
Posted by: I am Kazaam | 09/28/2015 at 11:59 AM
sorry kaz.
you're right about us having the talent to compete now, but completely wrong on tannehill.
he was top 5 in completion % last year.
THAT'S ACCURATE.
what's telling is we knew going in buffalo would try to get him, yet THE COACHES did nothing different from the last 2 years, and specifically the last 2 weeks.
why did they not roll him out?
and why, as fast as he is, did they not use him to run like other games?
he had ONE rushing attempt for -1 yards, which was probably a pocket collapse rather than an option.
this is completely on the coaches and they should all be fired today.
to your other point, yes they've acquired talent through free agency, but not completely as vernon, tannehill, pouncey, miller, landry, jones, jenkins, james, shelby and others were drafted.

woody, i don't give a shit about who is musical in your family.
YOU DON'T LIKE THE BEATLES.
that means you know less about music than you do about race relations
Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | 09/28/2015 at 12:48 PM
Big Baby likes to say that as well but watch the guy throw.
He can't make the throws into coverage Tom Brady or even Joe Flacco can. He has no touch on his deep ball no matter how much time he has.
He was 5th in the league in completion percentage and 28th in the league in yards per attempt.
He's simply an inaccurate passer from the pocket, regardless of the percentage of dumpoffs he completes.
Tune in to Aaron Rodgers tonight and then tell me you can't tell the difference.
Posted by: Account Deleted | 09/28/2015 at 12:57 PM
Yeah Woody, U don't like the Beatles, WTF dude?..get with the program.
Beatles Rule !
Tanny has been inaccurate for sure but I'm here to tell you he would be a lot better if he had an offensive line in front of him, you can win with the guy but he needs help.
Posted by: Fzb3346 | 09/28/2015 at 01:02 PM
There are some very good reasons to like Tannehill as a quarterback, but throwing the deep ball is not one of them.
Per "Pro Football Focus," Here’s a look at how quarterbacks fared in the deep passing game in 2014.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/QB-2130-pct1.png
Posted by: OC Dolphin | 09/28/2015 at 01:26 PM
OC and kaz, no one can argue with the statistics, but i still maintain that a balanced attack and more time to complete those long passes will result in better accuracy on those deep passes.
when it's 3rd and 5 and you're constantly lining up in a 4 or 5 wide with no back in the backfield, how is ANY QB going to be accurate.
thanks for referncing aaron rodgers, kaz. in between watching those long passes, make sure you watch how many times HE hands the ball off, and how opposing defenses are always guessing..

And a one, and a two.....
LMFAO!
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/28/2015 at 01:42 PM
Give him all the time in the world and Tannehill still won't be able to hit a receiver in stride 50 yards down the field.
But I'm not talking about the deep ball, I'm talking about third and long and needing to convert a 10-20 yard pass into tight coverage.
Tannehill's just never had the accuracy for those throws.
Posted by: Account Deleted | 09/28/2015 at 01:42 PM
If or really when the Fins clean house after the season, not sure Tannebaum & Hickey are gone. Coaches got to go, all of the top 3. So many missed opportunities by this organization, it's mind boggling.
I saw that Buffalo blowout coming as soon as Miami stopped playing the Jags.
Posted by: Jimbo | 09/28/2015 at 01:44 PM
David...unless I'm in error, When Joe was with the Packers, Lacy was still in college, so NO, the Packers didn't have a balanced attack. Check the numbers in 2010. Actually, I did.
The Packers threw it 541, average 5.7 yards...nearly what Tanny averages. Similarity in concept?
They ran it 421 times, averaging 3.8 yards.
THAT is what Philbin remembers. Crappy run stats, thus he tells Lazor to throw it often. It MAY not be all Lazor's doing, though we'll probably never know unless Lazor is made HC.
Posted by: IMAWriter | 09/28/2015 at 01:45 PM
Facts don't lie. Philbin's problem is that in NO way is Tanny anything close to Aaron Rodgers. Who would you want closing a game: Rodgers, or Tanny? Yet Philbin confuses the 2, apparently.
Posted by: IMAWriter | 09/28/2015 at 01:48 PM
Fz, one band that dapper could have played with was the fucking beatles. If that tone deaf fish ringo who cant even play wipeut on a tabletop can play in that band then ocarina dave may have a shot.
But then the producer of the brian wilson movie 86d dave the moment he saw his face.

Jimbo, I thought you picked the Dolphins to beat Buffalo. I'm too lazy to back check.
I can't recall anyone but myself actually going on record with a prediction by score.
Posted by: IMAWriter | 09/28/2015 at 01:50 PM
David, when your O-Line is actually worse than the preceding year, why would you think the coaches would trust them to run block? I've heard tell run blocking is easier to teach, but the players also have to have the will and fire to want to move people out of there. Apparently, not these guys. Pouncey has to answer for this, as the highest paid and a senior member. They used to call it leadership.
Posted by: IMAWriter | 09/28/2015 at 01:53 PM
Dap why dont you tell us again how we need to run the ball more.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/28/2015 at 01:54 PM
Sitting through Baltimore and Miami's losses back-to-back, there were two stark differences that stood out to me.
One was that time after time after time Flacco would step up on third or fourth and long and zip in passes through tight coverage that Tannehill simply can't make.
Maybe you can win with a guy like Tannehill or Tyrod Taylor when you jump to a lead, run the ball, and run play action but those guys are not the kind of quarterback you want bringing you back from behind.
The other was the coaching - Harbaugh saw the urgency down 14-0 and faked a punt down in his own end of the field. They came out blitzing and passing after halftime, and he did some little things that can sometimes make the difference.
There was a penalty on the last play of the third and CBS immediately went to break - when they came back, Harbaugh made them switch fields and cameras back, go back to the third quarter, and give Baltimore the untimed down they were entitled to.
Anyway, this coach/quarterback combination is a bad fit. The quarterback is signed to a $100M deal, so they need to bring in someone who will play to his strengths.

Kaz, You are comparing a real coach in Harbaugh to a Janitor, its not a fair comparison.
our Janitor is in rare company, we should be comparing him to :
RICH KOTITE, CAM CAMERON, WADE PHILLIPS ETC..
Posted by: Fzb3346 | 09/28/2015 at 02:07 PM
WAsnt dave one of the first guys on the dump Richie bandwagon along with tommy, bb, and that loser cote?
I think fz roid jimbo and the astronomer guy from sd were the only ones with me that wanted to keep richie and dump fairy martin and whack philbin
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/28/2015 at 02:13 PM
I said dump Richie because it was just bad press to keep him. It was just a volatile situation once the content of the texts was released. Looking back they probably should have said we're keeping him but the Dolphins aren't 1-2 right now because of Richie Incognito.
Posted by: Big Baby | 09/28/2015 at 02:17 PM
Ritchie's a football player, not a choir boy. It takes major balls to line up like NFL linemen do. Martin was weak and not suited for this level.
Coaches available.
Reach out to Dungy? He knows how to reach his players and came up on the D side.
Cowher? Ditka???
One former Dolphin player who has been around this team, players, organization, etc, is one Dan Marino. hmmmm interesting but very unlikely. We all know Dan isn't afraid to get in someone's face & call them out.

Posted by: Jimbo | 09/28/2015 at 02:35 PM
FZ next home game is Oct 25th if they don't start winning by then the banner campaign won't be necessary.
Posted by: Big Baby | 09/28/2015 at 02:36 PM
we should put Dawn Aponte in charge of everything, that bitch is in charge anyways.
on Schwartz..I just said he would be in consideration for the HC, he didn't do that good while at Detroit.
Posted by: Fzb3346 | 09/28/2015 at 03:10 PM
Jimbo - Ross gave Philbin that extension so that he wasn't such an obvious lame duck in the media, same reason he extended Sparano.
He was willing to pay millions just to help minimize that distraction, and it won't influence his decision on whether or not to fire Philbin.
If he really wants to fix this thing, he should clean house, offer Eric DeCosta a Parcells czar role and contract, and let him hire a coach.

speaking of Alzheimer's AND a one sided brain, the last time i checked the score was 14-0 after the 1st quarter.
14-0.
let's see.
if you run the ball, you can give your defense time to adjust, you'll keep them off the field, and you can start balancing your offense and begin to even the flow of the game.
yeah, ima. why the fuck would anyone want to do that.
once again, for the elderly and infirmed of the blog, be it physical or mental or both, (like woodpecker),
you don't run back to back 4 wide no runner in the back field plays after your runner gets 5 yards.
when you have 1st and goal from the 2 you don't call
4 straight pass plays, unless you are trying to impress baby.
this was all coaching.
not tannehill, not the receivers, but coaching.
for those who like to talk about tannehill's weaknesses, explain how a good coach would THEN decide to make him the leader of a one dimensional offense..
it's the fucking coaches, period.

There's 13 games left to play. Some of which we have a moderately reasonable chance to win. We're not getting 53 new players, though we need at least 25. And unfortunately, we're not getting 24 new coaches in here. We're either going to find the solutions to these problems or not. We're either going to stick together or not. This is not the time for our fans to panic and jump off the bandwagon. Have some faith.

27-0 first half...I meant.
The Dolphins attempted to duplicate what brady accomplished against the Bills. Brady is Brady, and does it with less talented receivers, but a better game plan, better routes, better adjustments, better coaching. Tanny is not nearly as accurate, but who is?

David, as you claim not to watch politics, you are obviously speaking out your ass as regards the debate. Parroting the talking points of whom though? Even liberal commentators observed Fiorina's obvious knowledge of us Forces deployment all over the world, their strengths...and weaknesses, and what she'd do to restore the military to guarantee America's safety.
Personally, I thought Marco Rubio was the most presidential, and equally at home with substance.

Hey there Joey?....Say did you put your house for sale yet?..,,just wondering.

KARMA once again. there are 32 teams in the NFL, only 13 whom the Dolphins play.
Caleb Sturgis signs with the EAGLES as their new kicker.
I'm taking bets that Sturgis kicks 3 against the Dolphins, one over 50 yards.

OC, your blog opening was, as usual pretty much on point.
"10. The call then comes, however painful it may be, to start the cycle all over again. Once again Dolfans get to watch multiple years: revamping, rebuilding, re-orgainzing. All that is associated when one sets out to assemble a new administration."
------
Not ALL Dolphins fans, though. If I believe the new regime (and other Ross moves) are as bad as these last 3 regimes, I may sit it out a few years. I'll just let all you youngsters continue being angst ridden, and go watch me some Martial Arts tournaments. MA amateur bouts, competition where 99% of the time honor is displayed to one's opponent, and the referee, as opposed to the trash talking miscreants in the Major sports and college. It's a disgrace.

Dap, you should be ecstatic. With Trumps new proposed tax plan anyone making under $15,000 will pay zero federal income taxes. That should be a windfall for you.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/28/2015 at 10:56 PM
silly woodcock.. i did hear about the elephant man reboot.
i heard you were playing his penis.
either you or trump.
both racist.
both can only have sex if they pay women.
and you both have about the same chance of becoming president.
ima, "restore the military", huh?
rubio "presidential"?
the cubalito from kendall?
boy are you going to be angry next year, IMA..

as for the regime, they've drafted well, (2 year sample size is small), and the free agent signings have been good.
it's the fucking coaching that sucks.

you sure love saying the word boy, woody. hmmmmmm..
Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | 09/29/2015 at 01:16 AM
"trump victory party"..
hahahahahaha..
Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | 09/29/2015 at 01:16 AM
Dap, just to show you I'm not a bad guy I promise you that when Trump kicks ass I'll make sure that your band gets a few monkey suit gigs in several of the big inauguration parties that will be going on in Beverly Hills.
No Beatles, though. Only world class American music. You do know how to play the Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie, right?

If Miami can win in Wembley than they should beat Tenn and Houston. Hopefully the opener was just a when everything goes wrong game. Bad loss at Wembley and all bets are off.

david,
soooo your saying Obama, Bill & Hillary Clinton are honest & trustworthy? The Democrats have cornered the market in upfront & transparent politics?
Posted by: Jimbo | 09/29/2015 at 08:59 AM
woody?
since corporate and wall street friendly obama increased your portfolio these past 7 years, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and bet me that trump will win, you silly spick.
jimbo, all politicians distort the truth and lie.
that's not news.
and i am not a democrat, so again i don't care.
what's telling is that in that "debate" nothing of substance was discussed; not the problems facing our country or what will solve them.
just immigrant bashing, lying about corporate taxes and carly lying about her success at HP and planned parenthood videos that don't exist.

Totally untrue david. You didn't watch the debate so stop commenting.
Posted by: Big Baby | 09/29/2015 at 09:28 AM
Of course you don't care, Dave, that's why you're a brain dead, touchy feely tree huger.
When you hit rock bottom and live 300 days a year in a 1985 Dodge Van traveling around playing in one podunk place after another with 4 or other guys each one smelling worse than the other you tend to lose perspective and give up on life.
You do have a tuxedo, right Dap? You'll need it pressed and clean for the big victory celebration concert.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/29/2015 at 09:53 AM
Unfortunately BB, the problems with our country will never be solved as long as Dave and his friends all have one vote just like I do.
Posted by: Mr. Woodcock | 09/29/2015 at 10:01 AM
i listened to the debate, baby.
i don't remember you sitting next to me panting and wagging your tail, so please refrain from posting bullshit that you know is bullshit.
as for the debate:
nothing on income inequality.
nothing on lifting wages.
nothing on making education more affordable.
nothing on poverty.
just some obama bashing, jesus sucking and other lovely obfuscations.
and please, baby.
with your record of predictions, explain how the republicans will win!

If you actually listened to the debate you would know that comment was pure bs. You didn't watch or listen to the debate.

Big Baby- As an outside observer, the jets game for all intent and purpose is the season for the dolphins. I hope they win so the jets have 2 loses. If they lose, all bets are off. You have to wonder if the big contract suh signed has affected the team. They let clay walk, and pass on mathis in what looks like cheap contracts they signed with other teams.
Posted by: Mccaber2 | 09/29/2015 at 10:12 AM
It is the season. Fucking sucks being a fan of this team.
Posted by: Big Baby | 09/29/2015 at 10:15 AM
"11-5, although I really think they will go 12-4 and win the division."
At least a broken clock is right twice a day, Dapper. What's your excuse?
