Mr. Woodcock

Women's soccer, OC?

Have we sunk this low?

What's next, the International Ice Barrel Jumping contest from Moose Bay, Labrador?

You're going against the cause, OC.

OC Dolphin

OC Dolphin,

hard to name just two, but from different "genres" original "the manchurian candidate" and "the producers",
can't leave out the americana entries for 4jul15, so in the western category "the searchers" and "shane".

Nothing at all. I love women. Just not on the golf course, or running the country of course.

I'm all for the gals who play in the lingerie football league to switch sports and run around a soccer pitch.

God bless them.

Woody, some if not all of those soccer chicks have some very fine well rounded asses. They look very sexy.

Mr. Woodcock

Of course they do. They're wasting their talents playing soccer.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Here's a picture of the new Cuban embassy in DC.

Notice the little grassy area in front of the building. That's where you boys can find me sitting on a lawn chair practicing my chipping while a huge sign that says FUCK FIDEL proudly flies on the grassy area in front of the building 24/7.

As you know, our President (and it seems other Dems like Biden and "the bowling pin") do "put on" accents to accommodate whatever area of the country to which they're speaking.

This morning, I could SWEAR that Mr Obama said the words "the Cubang peoples."

Pronounced "COO-bahng."
As I've been out of Florida for 40+ years, it was deja vu. Way to go, POTUS.

Next, he'll be at the dinner table going "pssssssst", to get Michelle's attention.

Just watched an ESPN report from Cuba. The Cuban Government delays MLB basebol boradcasts, sometimes for days, to allow them to EDIT OUT any plays involving Cuban defectors!!
A fine country we're now aligning with.
Well, it makes sense, as the government/Network news censorship here in the US is a real thing as well.

Congrats to Riley and the heat for getting it done with Dragic. He is now their best player. Riley should thank Mitch Kupchak, as the drafting of Russell made it all possible.

Weeks ago, OC and I(perhaps others as well) suggested that Okafor was not nearly the BIG to get the Lakers to the next level. Glad Kupchak and Buss read this blog! haha

So, do the Heat have the cap space to also sign Wade? I'm with Riley when he SAYS that mourning and Wade ARE the Heat. However, 3 years with Wade's beat up body is asking too much. Why not 2 years, play the luxury tax? Arison is one of the richest owners in the league.

and yeah, woody; the reyes are amazing badasses..

OC..
what is more interesting than your point about salaries is THIS:

the highest paid player ever is still michael jordan.
NBA teams are worth billions more than they were 20 years ago, yet no player has made more per year since jordan was over $30 million.
i think kobe hit that one year, but the owners have hoodwinked the public with this needing a salary cap.

imagine a salary cap in yours or anyone here's industry; completely unamerican and ridiculous as the owners walk away with billions..

IMAWriter

David, soccer can be a beautiful thing, especially when played without the dives, brutal fouls, and the ever present referee incompetence.

The last men's World Cup us a great example.

IMO, the quality of play in the NBA has diminished since the days of Bird and Magic and Jordan, and later, the LAKER triangle. Yes, the Spurs, and to a extent, the Warriors are the exceptions.

I agree with whomever posted about the crap the NBA allows players to get away with, all due to TV.

Hopefully, teams like the Heat, constructed somewhat in the TEAM image MAY be the next to join, with the Lakers (assuming Russell is the real deal) hopefully down the road a bit. Sorry, I am NOT on the Scott bandwagon.

i told you dragic wasn't going anywhere; riley had that worked out before we traded for him; it didn't matter what the lakers did, miami could have offered him more, not only money but with a better chance to win right now.

as for wade, he isn't that beat up.
that narrative is false.

what contending team would take a player like wade, even with him missing 20 games a season but never missing the playoffs, top 10 in points, and still a hohgly efficient and effective playmaker and distributor?
he is a baller, great in the locker room and the ultimate team player.
he's an asset to any contending team.
the clippers would KILL to have a guy like wade..

(the real) david in los angeles

ima, you are absolutely right regarding the quality of play.

and it's a shame when you factor in the fact that these guys are athletically superior to many of yesterday's players.

if these amazing athletes today could have 4 years learning fundamentals under a coach K or calhoun, the way cats back in the day did under smith or phelps the game would be off the charts amazing.
oh well..

Yes, David, but that was their DUTY. Different time.

The POINT is, NO ONE is doing shit about ISIS, and worrying about less than 2% of the country's marriage status while BILLIONS of people around the world are threatened with beheading and being burned alive is NOW, David NOW.

I've already paid reparations to blacks for 30+ years, having my Unions checking up on whom I'm hiring for sessions. I had QUOTAS on SAG and AFTRA sessions. They would go through our contracts to see what % of blacks were there.

(the real) david in los angeles

"their duty"?
the were treasonous secessionists who CHOSE to make that their duty.
like it's ISIS's duty.. lol
bad argument.

marriage equality is an important issue, along with the 2nd class status that gay people in this country have lived under.

it's a human rights issue, and the solution is way simpler than defeating ISIS, which will also require the help of many other countries in the region when you consider the biggest number of ISIS deaths are, in fact, fellow muslims.

but i salute you.
unlike others here who constantly bash islam, it's nice to see someone here actually supporting the destruction their biggest external threat.

(the real) david in los angeles

isis could easliy be defeated by the nations there.
at the most, they have 31,000 members and that's definitely NOT a threat to "billions" of people..
yes, they're bad, but arab countries in the region need to step up and fight their own battles for a change..

Mccaber2

David- I do agree with you about isis. The arab nations need to step it up a bit. If some of these countries had the balls that Isreal has, it might take the steam out these nitwits.

Mr. Woodcock,

you really must have enjoyed "whatever happened to baby jane"!!

women playing futbol is a difficult watch. as stated, they lack the leg strength to score on volleys, and on corners they can't get the ball to the far corner. the USA got two really bad calls go their way, but man was that a brutal watch. i like japanese women (most asian girls except pilipinos and koreans) so w'll see if there are any cuties playing for the rising sun. i am rooting for england cause they haven't won anything in years, male or female, and would like to see them win the WC. the ole shadow roots for underdogs, which the englsih would certainly be.

am not big on bette davis or joan crawford (my blessed mother's favorite actress; jackie cooper wrote that joan crawford taught him how to be a man when he was a kid on the studio lot. joan crawford was a beauty when she was very young, but she got old quickly. better davis was a fantastic actress and also a charmer when younger ("jezebel", "now, voyager"; but somewhere between "all about eve" and "baby Jane" she lost her good looks, which is okay cause she was middle-aged+++ at the time.

iran alone has an army of soldiers and reservists that totals at around 700,000 soldiers.

again, isis has MAYBE 30,000.

this could be over in a week; especially if the united states did what it should've done decades ago, and that's get the fuck out of there and let the battle for the soul of islam be fought by those there.

the same way the christians fought their battles in europe centuries ago.

and naples, to your point about israel:

watch what happens if isis actually gets deep into the jordanian border; if it happens on a monday, israel will squash them before shabbat on friday..

Naples Jack Pats Fan,

'the magnificent seven" was a very fine and entertaining western and "dirty harry" an iconic film that made clint eastwood the giant that he has become. i really like his first directorial effort "play misty for me" with the psychotic jessica walters tormenting him. his love of jazz translated into that movie and also "bird"- jack webb also loved jazz and was a very underrated actor owing to his "dragnet" stint.

the ole shadow wants brady to get a game at the most for whatever happened with the footballs. he was one dropped pass (welker) and one misplay by rodney harrison on the "helmet catch" from being 6/6 in the SBs playing with not near the talent that surrounded joe montana in SF. the guy has been the best QB in the NFL since he took over from drew bledsoe, making stars out of julian edelman types. the dolphins will have a decent season, maybe make the playoffs, but let's see them beat the patriots when it counts.

Answer: Ca$$$$$$$$hing!

Alright boy,s any more questions on why Tiger is not hitting it straight, and he's not putting it well, and he's not serving fried chicken or what ever the hell they serve?

Our boy is getting himself a double breasted handful every night of the week.

Who needs those four majors when he's getting majors every single night of the week.

Attaboy Tiger, on the eve of the Fourth of July the greatest date on the calendar it's good to see that Tiger Woods is making a statement to what's great in American Mom, hot dogs, apple pie, and a whole heaping barrel full of poontang!"

Mr. Woodcock

I believe the correct pronunciation and title is Ms. Amanda "Boing!" Boyd, Shadow.

She of the former Dufners of Auburn, Alabama. This daughter of Dixie and 100% prime piece of ass is what you call one of our fine Southern Belles.

"Can I get an amen, brother?"

"Amen to that, rev.....!"

Mr. Woodcock

"I'm shocked, shocked, that there's gambling going on here!"

Story goes on to say that Woods took (Boing!) Boyd to Seattle for a few days earlier in the year. When Jason Dufner found out his wife was cheating on him with Tiger he supposedly was “devastated” by the news. When they both filed for divorce they cited the reason as an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage,” but supposedly Amanda was the one who initially filed while asking for a gross sum of $2.5 million.

So what did Woods’ agent say when FOX asked for a comment on the alleged affair between Tiger Woods/Amanda (Boing!) Boyd? Lies!

“Absolutely 100 percent false,” said Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg. “Complete lie and fabrication.”

Mr. Woodcock

"As I've counseled Tiger often, 'You don't have to marry them to fuck em.'

No more comments."

Mark Steinberg

Of course not but their careers would be over if they said that. IMA is right it's the world we live in. IMA you really think Goran Dragic is the Heat's best player? I mean he's good and all but if that is true then they are in some trouble. Bosh and Wade have to be the best for them to compete for anything. shadow you're killing me with that Pats talk they also won a couple on field goals one in OT. Luck plays into it both ways. One game for Brady no way he gets the full four that he deserves. Troy Vincent is right all the way.

i'll talk about whatever i want to talk about, and the only person here that can stop me is OC, ok?
not your dumb ass.

their issue was slavery, PERIOD.
they were committing treason, they were attempting to secede from the union, and no point is worth doing that over.
and there is nothing honorable about undermining the constitution and the rule of law in this country.

that being said, honoring the dead and the brutal northern occupation is best done in cemeteries or parks honoring the men who dies 150 years ago and their families.

as for the flag, if you were a smart person you would know that the flag we are discussing is among the many that were flown by those treasonous southerners, but was primarily the flag flown by northern virginia.

in addition, if you were an even smarter person you would know that the flag saw minimal use until 1948 when strom thurmond adopted it for his states rights party in defiance of the federal government, as civil rights laws were beginning to be enforced.

if you were an ever SMARTER person you would know that georgia adopted this flag in 1956 protesting the desegregation of schools.

if you were a really really smart person you'd know george wallace did it in 1961 to protest desegregation in alabama and south carolina followed in 1962.

these flags were dormant until used, NOT for southern pride, but in defiance to the government's enforcement of civil rights. they never represented southern heritage, or southern pride, or a legacy that somehow includes everything good anyone ever did south of the mason dixon line, slavery excluded.

BUT YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT.

The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”

“That propaganda is good which leads to success, and that is bad which fails to achieve the desired result. It is not propaganda’s task to be intelligent, its task is to lead to success.”

interesting, huh?

(the real) david in los angeles

and sweetie baby?
why would anyone listen to a little catholic brahmin regarding why the south decided to secede from the union?

let's let those southern states speak for themselves, shall we?

Alexander Stephens, vice president of the Confederacy, said the Southern states would fight to keep “the negro” in “his place” in a hard-to-misread statement on the day the Civil War began:

Many governments have been founded upon the principle of the subordination and serfdom of certain classes of the same race; such were and are in violation of the laws of nature. Our system commits no such violation of nature’s laws. With us, all of the white race, however high or low, rich or poor, are equal in the eye of the law. Not so with the negro. Subordination is his place. He, by nature, or by the curse against Canaan, is fitted for that condition which he occupies in our system. The architect, in the construction of buildings, lays the foundation with the proper material -- the granite; then comes the brick or the marble. The substratum of our society is made of the material fitted by nature for it, and by experience we know that it is best, not only for the superior, but for the inferior race, that it should be so. It is, indeed, in conformity with the ordinance of the Creator. It is not for us to inquire into the wisdom of His ordinances, or to question them. For His own purposes, He has made one race to differ from another, as He has made “one star to differ from another star in glory. The great objects of humanity are best attained when there is conformity to His laws and decrees, in the formation of governments as well as in all things else. Our confederacy is founded upon principles in strict conformity with these laws.

Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy, cited slavery as the reason for going to war in 1861 and rallied in its defense until his death in 1889. His take on the Emancipation Proclamation, reiterated in his memoirs, is quite telling:

A proclamation, dated on January 1, 1863, signed and issued by the President of the United States, orders and declares all slaves within ten of the States of the Confederacy to be free, except such as are found in certain districts now occupied in part by the armed forces of the enemy. We may well leave it to the instinct of that common humanity, which a beneficent Creator has implanted in the breasts of our fellow-men of all countries, to pass judgment on a measure by which several millions of human beings of an inferior race -- peaceful, contented laborers in their sphere -- are doomed to extermination, while at the same time they are encouraged to a general assassination of their masters by the insidious recommendation "to abstain from violence, unless in necessary self-defense."

The Confederate leaders couldn't have been clearer about what they were fighting for.

if you're still too dense and stubborn to see how ignorant your statement was, perhaps reading the secession statements of the southern states might convince you.

David, this is REALLY gay-ish commentary.
Personally, I'd be relieved, and PLEASED to know you're gay, and, in fact it would probably relieve a LOT of tension around here. SERIOUSLY.

Baby, you asked if I REALLY thought Dragic was the best player on the Heat. I could say I said that to deliberately get a rise out of David, but he was too saavy to take the bait.

But WAIT!!....I actually DO think he will be the most all around productive player. I think Bosh has already crested, and you know what I think of Wade...a FORMER all star, while Dragic is a CURRENT all star.

(the real) david in los angeles

IMA, he doesn't even know the history of the confederate flag, and it's its re-appropriation by southern dixiecrats who protested segregation.

saying "it doesn't represent slavery or oppression" is the dumbest thing anyone has written here, and considering we have tommy manziel that is really saying alot.

i call him sweetie and i call tommy liza and intimate that they're in the closet because they act like it and mostly because it bothers them, especially baby. tommy, to his credit, maintains that he is socially liberal and supports gay rights, (even though he constantly votes for people against it), while baby is the catholic that wanted to fight after i called him out.

it's fun.
as for my sexuality, i hate to disappoint you but i am, indeed, very straight.
actively straight, as it were, as i'm still young enough to indulge!

(the real) david in los angeles

as to the dragic comment, you were right about me taking the bait.

unfortunately, bosh and wade are still the best players on the team.
last year was tough on chris bosh; new role, no cohesion, new players and tons of injuries including his own.
next year he'll ball out for sure.

(the real) david in los angeles

what's up with your lakers, though?
you and OC seemed pretty confident but apparently no one wants to deal with kobe or their lack of vision.
all that money and no one to spend it on.. for shame..

(the real) david in los angeles

### ESPN reported that Dragic offered to be flexible with his deal to help the Heat sign Wade. And by agreeing to a deal reportedly worth $90 million over five years, Dragic took several million less than what his agents thought he could get from the Heat if he hadn’t been willing to work with Miami.

see?
the lakers would've paid him more and he still chose miami..

FZB!!!!!

next year cleveland better watch the fuck out.

whiteside
bosh
deng
wade
dragic

with winslow, mcroberts, ennis and others off the bench.
the team we didn't see all last year because of injuries, (unless you listen to baby's bullshit and believe it's all because lebron left).

who wants to bet the celtics are back in the lottery while miami is in the eatern conference finals against cleveland?

they were committing treason, they were attempting to secede from the union, and no point is worth doing that over.
and there is nothing honorable about undermining the constitution and the rule of law in this country.

that being said, honoring the dead and the brutal northern occupation is best done in cemeteries or parks honoring the men who dies 150 years ago and their families.

as for the flag, if you were a smart person you would know that the flag we are discussing is among the many that were flown by those treasonous southerners, but was primarily the flag flown by northern virginia.

in addition, if you were an even smarter person you would know that the flag saw minimal use until 1948 when strom thurmond adopted it for his states rights party in defiance of the federal government, as civil rights laws were beginning to be enforced.

if you were an ever SMARTER person you would know that georgia adopted this flag in 1956 protesting the desegregation of schools.

if you were a really really smart person you'd know george wallace did it in 1961 to protest desegregation in alabama and south carolina followed in 1962.

these flags were dormant until used, NOT for southern pride, but in defiance to the government's enforcement of civil rights. they never represented southern heritage, or southern pride, or a legacy that somehow includes everything good anyone ever did south of the mason dixon line, slavery excluded.

BUT YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT.

you'll hem, you'll haw, you might ignore me or you might respond, but once again you've shown your true ignorant colors, sweetie baby.

IMA, he doesn't even know the history of the confederate flag, and it's its re-appropriation by southern dixiecrats who protested segregation.

saying "it doesn't represent slavery or oppression" is the dumbest thing anyone has written here, and considering we have tommy manziel that is really saying alot.

i call him sweetie and i call tommy liza and intimate that they're in the closet because they act like it and mostly because it bothers them, especially baby. tommy, to his credit, maintains that he is socially liberal and supports gay rights, (even though he constantly votes for people against it), while baby is the catholic that wanted to fight after i called him out.

it's fun.
as for my sexuality, i hate to disappoint you but i am, indeed, very straight.

as to the dragic comment, you were right about me taking the bait.

unfortunately, bosh and wade are still the best players on the team.
last year was tough on chris bosh; new role, no cohesion, new players and tons of injuries including his own.
next year he'll ball out for sure.

Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | 07/02/2015 at 03:07 AM

Big Baby

Celtics will likely be back in the lottery. Historically (and you can go way back) Boston hasn't really landed a free agent of any signifigance. They have to trade and draft which as we all know isn't easy. I honestly wish they would tank this season and hope Brooklyn pick is Top 10 as well they are receiving. They are too well coached and have some decent players to tank though they are stuck.

Big Baby

I honestly thought david was gay not that there is anything at all wrong with that. I remember him talking about his wedding a while ago maybe woodcock an back me up on this. If he is gay and not admitting it that is even weirder.

IMAWriter

I'll take that bet. 2 ways to win.
Actually 3, IF the the Cavs aren't in the East Finals. haha.

I agree with Baby regarding the Celtics coach. They love to play for him (apparently...I don't follow the Celtics).

Wow David, so many excuses for Bosh's season. All players play through some kind of injuries. Bosh is soft, like Bynum was for the Lakers. Pao got a bad rap, when in fact he is a MAN. Losing Pao made a bad situation worse.

IMAWriter

David, far as I know there is NO ONE HERE that would, in any way think less of you for being gay.
Actually, the bar is already rock bottom. haha
SORRY, the punchline was there, and I HAD to go for it.

However, my first statement stands. Be gay, be proud.

Poor Dave. Keep on blowing on that ocarina, Dapper!

Mr. Woodcock

IMA, as you well know life is a series of crossroads and success and failure depends on the decisions that you make at that crossroad. The Lakers had one of those when they let Jackson go and they were staring at an over the hill Bryant who was making unrealistic demands on the team. That moment was the Lakers' Waterloo. They should have given Bryant his walking papers. Only a moron signs an over the hill superstar to the highest contract in the league.

Seriously? You do understand that Ms. Universe, 1965 is in a fucking nursing home right now, right? I don't care how many great and unbelievable blow jobs she gave you there's no fucking way in the world that you're not going to replace her with Ms. Universe 2015.

When they signed Bryant, who is one of the most selfish players in NBA history, and he poisoned the waters when Howard signed with the Lakers, it spelled doom for the Los Angeles franchise.

Now what can they offer any free agent? Nothing. Who in their right mind wants to play for an aging Ms. Universe 1965 with a huge attitude?

Next!

I think David must have been a writer in his prior life, WTF are those manifestos he is writing?

There is a report out that Jedi Master Riley is seeking an interview with Aldridge , no doubt to give him the Vulcan mind melt and get him to agree to join the Heat, hey I like both ok?

Fzb3346

Now if that report is true I don't see how he can come here , bosh or Whiteside plus players / salaries have to leave.... I'm not sure I would do that but I trust the Jedi Master..

Hauntingly reminiscent of Ted Kaczynski.

Tom,

two of the ole shadow's idioms come true:

A) give up an own goal- your team loses-see england yesterday

B)the girls can only make pKs and not from the run of play-see england/japan yetserday

the USA scored their 2nd goal against germany because of another futbol ididom- miss a PK (not the shootoutversion) and your team will lose-see usa-germany. the US only scored the second goal because germany had to open up being behibd 1-0 due to the female kraut missed her PK while hope solos was in the yukon, sasic shot her ball into oregon.

Woods, not sure I understand the above. I've NOT been a fan of the Kobe heist on the Lakers...far from it, and would have been fine if he'd gone elsewhere. Shaq would have stayed if Kobe had been halfway human.

It's sad to see what the Lakers have become, truly a Hollywood disaster movie.
As you said, they only have themselves to blame.

Without the BIG I thought they could pick up in FA, I have to agree with those that say 40 wins might be pushing it. Sacre ain't Aldridge, not even close.

the shadow knows

Tom,

yes heartbreaking. i was rooting for the brits who as i read werer controlling the play. when it comes to any WC, the english will find agut-wrenching way to lose. now the 3rd place tussle will have some rlevance with england taking on the female krauts. somebody once asked a brit what it was like to lose continuously to the germans in the game the british "invented"; response, we don't mind losing to them at "our" game as long as we beat the at theirs"!!!

DWade resigns with Heat

IMAWriter

1 Year. Very Smart on Wade's part, and also Riley's. The game's a-foot.
I did say yesterday I thought Wade should sign a 2 year deal, as I thought it was 2 years before the new cap structure, which then goes up again the following year.

It was NEXT year, so my bad for saying 2 years. This was pretty much exactly what I thought Wade...and the heat had to do. 21.5 points is hard to come by. The future depends on whether Wade can do it 70+ games in the regular season, and not break down in the playoffs.

I think Riley won this one by a neck, but there are truly no losers, especially the Heat.

As for the Lakers, "Chickie Baby" is rolling over in his grave.

IMAWriter

Yes, no college teams are working out (publicly), but Al Golden has been strangely silent this summer.

Noticed at least 4 NFL starters have been suspended 4 games for substances...in the last 2 days!! Dolphin's will have the Jets without Sheldon Richardson, but the rookie Williams may be even better...or not.

(the real) david in los angeles

Looks like Kevin Love is opting out. Just shows how difficult it is keeping three great players on one team happy. It doesn't always work out. Cleveland gave up Wiggins for one year of Kevin Love? Maybe he re-signs with Cleveland but if not ouch. That changes things a bit in the East. Come to Boston Kevin! You know you want to!

OC Dolphin

Well, congrats to the Heat. They signed both guys they wanted and Dwyane got a little bit back of the money he had sacrificed for the greater good.

Assuming my math is correct, or close, that makes this year's salary total at $94 million, against a luxury tax threshold of $82 million. Making it $12M over.

Can someone please explain why it is even being suggested that the team is also interested in adding Aldridge and what will most likely be in the $27M range? Heck, while they are at it, why not also toss in DeAndre Jordan and his own $25M. I'm sure Mickey can afford a $400 million salary for next year.

Account Deleted

Are the Heat serious contenders for LaMarcus Aldridge?

OC Dolphin

Someone in the Heat-rumor mill says that they are interested in adding him to the team. Hence, my post.

Account Deleted

Where will they get the money? Unless Mickey is willing to dig deep and pay a huge luxury tax. Might it be an attempt to put together a team that can compete for a championship in a weak Eastern Conference? Beat Lebron? The team they have now is a top 4 team in the East and maybe even better as long as they stay healthy.

Fzb3346

D Wade back to the Heat, tol-ya... We will be East contenders next year, yeah I said it.

OC Dolphin

I suppose a better question would be -- if in fact Mickey is fine blowing close to twelve-digits in salary, why on earth was he and Pat running Wade through the freaking wringer for a measly $3M more!?

Account Deleted

Good point. But it seems something happened behind the scenes. Wade wanted 3 years. Now he takes the 1 year deal. Hmm? Maybe something is up.

I read the Lakers are getting another shot at Aldridge. I don't see it though. The Lakers are just not what they used to be. Bad management.

OC Dolphin

The reason that Wade took a year contract has more to do with the overall spending spree that will occur next year around this time. Players like Love, who just penciled in a 5 year contract will regret it.

Account Deleted

Do you really see the Heat laying another big contract on Wade?

OC Dolphin

I think the trend will be (especially for younger players) to sign one to two year contracts from now on. I reported that the salaries and cap have risen 72% within five years. Players would be foolish being stuck in a 5 year deal when the market continues to climb through the roof.

Older players like Wade, on the other hand, need the security that a longer term contract affords. Wade capitulated to the gamble that he will last through the whole year, uninjured, so that next year he can obtain another $3M raise, then again the following year.

Fzb3346

Now that Wade is coming back we need to go after a three point specialist , I'm sure there's a couple out there.

OC, The Lakers will be mediocre as long as that asswipe bartender is in charge, I hope I'm wrong , the NBA needs Boston and LA back .

Jimbo

Aldridge a Laker? From what I read, he was unimpressed with his interview with Kobe & Lakers. Spurs let C Splitter go for cap relief & Duncan, Leonard & Parker have been trying to bring Aldridge to San Antonio. No state tax & a very good chance at winning a championship. He can go wherever he chooses but don't be surprised to see him sign with the Spurs.

Happy 4th fellas, be safe & enjoy the weekend with your family.

(the real) david in los angeles

NBA thoughts..

the heat would be interested in aldridge as a starting 4.
the 2nd unit would feature whiteside and mcroberts, depending on the opponent.

as it is we can definitely contend in the east without him; adding him means riley is looking at the west as well.

as for love, he's never finished a season healthy.
$118 million guaranteed RIGHT NOW is way better than betting on more when he's as fragile as he is.
he was smart to take that now.

as for wade YES, he misses games.
but he doesn't miss playoff games, OC.
any contending team would be happy to have a guy like that sit against charlotte in january if it means you have him in may and june.
it's a no-brainer.

as for the tax, miami is a "repeat offender", meaning it's not $1 for $1.
the tax on $3 million becomes $7.5 million!
every penny counts, but wade was never leaving; he needed to let them know he wanted his money and they were of course going to pay it.
at this point, miami is still lower than Brooklyn or the cavs and others. we shall see what happens.

(the real) david in los angeles

D Wade back to the Heat, tol-ya... We will be East contenders next year, yeah I said it.

i said it too, brother.
cleveland is fucked.. lol

Big Baby

dave you are obsessed with me now I get it. Seriously though was that your wedding or some other gay couple you were talking about a while back?

(the real) david in los angeles

according to dave hyde, they're thinking about a sign and trade if aldridge wants be play here for a winner; maybe bosh, mcroberts or even winslow..

not sure how i feel about that.
this team, if healthy, can win the east PERIOD.
but if riley thinks we're better doing this, i trust him implicitly.
it's nice to feel that way about management for a change; if only the dolphins instilled the same level of trust and results..

go heat!

I'm not OC, but I believe you to be correct. This apple fell FAR from the tree.

IMO that "3 year plan" touted by Jeannie Buss is just so much bullshit. It's obfuscation to cover her brother's ass. Blood is thicker than a winning record.

The 64k question goes back to this: why in hell didn't Jeannie tell Jim and Mitch to GET PHIL no matter what? Why did they screw with Phil Jax? Surely she, of all people would have known how proud Phil is, and that entire episode reeks of incompetence. She has gotten a free ride from the press and fans, but she doesn't deserve it.
