A CASE FOR GASE: Optimism once again fuels Dolfan Nation. It is after all, the beginning of a new season. A time when even the most tortured fan allows room for hope. Many, many years have passed since the day when Miami fans had reasons to celebrate. Not counting that Wildcat/lame competition season of 2008, the fanbase has not had a reason to strut since - dare I say - the "Marino Era."
Enter Adam Gase, with career, regular season record of 10-6, 0-1 single playoff game. Gase starts his second season as head coach with arguably one of the best Dolphins teams assembled in recent history. Add to that, a chance to demonstrate that those bad Dolphins teams through the "modern era," were teams of the past. Yet we should also realize that everywhere pessimistically sits that most tortured of creatures - "Pavlovian Dolfan." Convinced that this Sunday starts yet another disappointing Dolphins season.
IRMA, NOT A FAN: If things were not tough enough (see schedule below), Hurricane Irma did her thing in Florida and essentially eliminated the Dolphins bye week. This means no rest or time off to recuperate during a long 16-game season. Perhaps this cruel injustice would not be so serious where this year's Dolphins playing that 2008 schedule which had teams registering a weak (147-138) combined record over their previous year, and not the 2017 schedule of games against teams that combined the previous year to produce 22 less losses (154-116)!
