Big Baby

Not a huge Johnny Miller fan but he channelled my thoughts exactly. 63 at Erin hills is not the same as a 63 at par 71 Oakmont. He even called it the Milwaukee Open like me. Dufner means well but he's trying too hard to sound smart.

the shadow knows

CARRIE FISHER!!!

found in her system were ecstasy, heroin and cocaine, among other "stuff"; geez, that girl in star wars with the hgairbuns above her ears goes wild in the golden years! heroin and cocaine!! as lowell george, RIP, wrote "don't give me a speedbal, might die trying"! well both of them did

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

nice compliment to say el tri is top 5 in the world! they are playing well, but they'd struggle to be top five in the western hemisphere.

Big Baby

That's my list shadow sticking with it.

Big Baby

You know how I feel about Fifa anyway.

Fzb3346

who's Fifa?..is that the name of your new poodle? just asking.

Big Baby

International Soccer federation. For the most part they are a bunch of poodles.

Big Baby

Add Jordan Spieth to the list of players out of touch with reality. Yes Jordan the course is too easy.

Big Baby

shadow let Russia fight that battle alone. I have a feeling this may escalate. I thought Putin and Trump were cordial as well if so not anymore. US needs to get out of there.

the shadow knows

TROPICAL STORMS A-BREWIN!!!

well it os the season; it rained a great deal today and seems like another storm is on the way. rained non-stop between 11-2 this morning/afternoon.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

USA and russia on opposite sides of then syrian "civil war". worst move in my lifetime was the invasion of iraq and the complete breakdown of any semblance of "order" in the middle east. saddam hussein was bad, but at least with him there there was some degree of stability. those were the days. as trumpski's good pal putin stated, and he was right on this, the USA would be better off with dictators in place; in countries with no concept of democracy forcing it on them has led to the complete destabilization of the region.

the shadow knows

OC Dolphin,

real good flub on brooks' girlfriend by fox/joe buck. she wasn't bad, but not a grade A WAG type. what's next? british open? or did i m miss that?

the shadow knows

ANOTHER ROOKIE WITH 20 HRs BY JULY!!

who is this wunderkind bellringer of the dodgers? where do they have room to fit all these talented young white guys? Mr. Woodcock must be ready to throw himself off the manhattan beach pier with the dodgers, whom he loathes playing well.

the shadow knows

20-20 CLUB:

you gotta be really great to average 20 points and 20 rebounds in college. add the really good artis gilmore to the list. although sidney wicks handled him in the 69-70 NCAA final, gilmore was fantastic the whole season. the eastern regional final against kentucky, with dan issel having fouled out, was one of the grittiest contests the ole shadow has ever seen. UK went into, i think, double overtime w/o issel, before finally giving way. id harris is not one of the 10m best centers ever, i can't imagine who is.

the shadow knows

TOOK A LOOK AT THE LISTS, WHICH DON'T CONTAIN ARTIS!

it is hard to quarrel with the choices, but i would take george mikan out and put artis in.
i understand george mikan's unreal dominance, but he really had no competition in those halcyon years of the NBA. plus, i don't think patrick ewing was as great an NBAer as he was a collegian. he was ruined in the NBA by being made into a scorer primarily, with his defense and rebounding sacrificed for points. worst thing he ever did was hit that corner shot to open the title game against UNC-yes he could shoot, but he should have been playing a walton type game in the pros; instead they made hime the first option on terrible offensive teams that the knicks had. and you can blame riley for a big chunk of that-the fist in the air meant throw the ball to whichever center he had.

Jimbo

We're getting steady rain for the last 16 or so hours. Nothing to get excited about - yet.

the shadow knows

WHAT A JOKE!!!!

greg oden is gonna be the student manager at ohio state; says he is gonna "mentor" some of the players!! greg oden!! a "mentor"?based on his years of experience!! make me gag

the shadow knows

that is a lot of water!!

the shadow knows

HEY, I LIKE BASEBALL BUT....

when its takes an hour to get to the top of the 3rd, even an ardent admirer of the game loses patience. plus the non-stop babbling of the announcers makes the game seem secondary. CAN THEY PLEASE SHUT UP?

Jimbo

24 hours later & it's still raining. Cindy is one wet bitch.

the shadow knows

IS ADRIAN GONZALEZ HURT?

saw that the HR hitting rookie bellringer plays 1st, and that he is a left-handed hitter. then dodgers have a very good and proven player in gonzalez. how'd he get into the line-up. 21 HRs and it is not even july, aaron judge 24 HRs. two rookies denting the bleachers? let's check the composition of the bristol, which seems to be flying out of every park thus far this season.

Big Baby

I had Gonzalez on my fantasy team and dropped him shadow. I think he's declining wasn't hitting for any power or average. Strange because he has had a solid career not sure what's going on.

the shadow knows

STRANGE TACTIC HAS MEXICO READY TO BE ELIMINATED IN RUSSIA!!!!

osorio decided to start his "b" team against new zealand, who although wasn't thought to be much popped guys into the box at will, resulting in one goal in the 542nd minute and forcing mexico's goalkeeper into 2 or 3 big saves. the stars are sitting on the bench, and if the result holds, mexico will say hasta la vista to any chance of the next round. russia and portugal already have wins, and mexico needs something big to happen against a much bigger and stronger side from next to down under. guess osorio thought not too much of the kiwis, but his nalgas are on the hot seat barring an almost miracle comeback.

the shadow knows

BIG COMEBACK, BIGGER RUMBLE!!!!

well inserting hector herrera made el tri a much better presence on the field, but the teams rumbled after a shirt hold by mexico that went without a card until after the rumble and a review by the assistants. well, el tri need a result (read at least a draw) against the home team or they will be history unless portugal falls apart against an already eliminated new zealand. believe they will be playing the russkis on sunday 11 EDT.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

the "b" team had hector herrera in the second half and he seemed to get things to open up for them. they've now got a young player named jurgen damm who was pretty good. tomorrow it is chile against germany, and both will advance. if el tri holds up against russia, it would be a semis of mexico, portugal, chile and germany, and el tri would be a real underdog against either of the top teams in the other bracket.

Big Baby

Both goals for Mexico nicely done. Mexico hasn't lost a game since the Copa America last year. I would put them right there to beat anyone right now.

Big Baby

4th Selke award for the great Patrice Bergeron tying Bob Gainey. Kid from Montreal has had a pretty good career.

OC Dolphin

shadow,

Next up is The Open, or The British Open, as was once known before those tea sipping snobs declared that there was only ONE Open.

The Open Championship returns to Royal Birkdale. Birkdale will actually be a return to England for this tournament after a two-year hiatus in Scotland. Just over 7,000 yards, it's a short course whose only defense is the winds. Advantage Texans.

OC Dolphin

That's a month from now- July 20-23.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

don't think i will watch germany and chile as they will probably meet in the final and i am having a long day today. heard that osorio subbed 8 players from the 11 that tied portugal. they were way better in the second half yesterday with quite a few "cheeky" chances in the box. they just couldn't contain chris wood (not the guy that played with traffic)

the shadow knows

OC Dolphin,

thanks for the information regarding the open. isn't this the one where the frenchy put his ball in the lake and watched something like a seven stroke lead dissipate?was in the Holy Land at the time and they don't show golf on TV in a country with one golf course!

Fzb3346

I guess we'll have something to watch tonight, the NBA draft is on, yeah We are scrapping the bottom of the barrel people.

when does football starts again?

OC Dolphin

shadow,

The "Frenchy" screwup Open actually took place in Carnoustie, where Jean van de Velde was trying to become the first Frenchman since 1907 to win the tournament. "Frenchy" had a three stroke lead going into the final hole and entertained a multitude of golfers everywhere but France, where his bravado (hardheadedness) crushed his dream.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

changed my mind and am watching chile play germany's youth team. chile started off pressing them with a very high line-and alexis sanchez- the classiest, most noble player in the futbol world, just put chile up with a very early goal, 6& 1/2 minutes into the match.

the shadow knows

OC Dolphin,

"van de Velde" sounds dutch-was the guy from belgium, where half the country is french and the other half dutch. belgium is the poland of western europe, except their gfutbol club of late is world class. their last match at the WC with the USA was a game for the ages, and maybe tim howard's finest hour. am not a big fan of his, but in that game he sparkled.

Big Baby

Good that Germany is young a WC is not in their future next year. Chile is a good team as evidenced when they beat albicelestes in the tourney a few years ago. It's lining up for an Argentinian run in 2018 if fifa doesn't get involved which is of most interest to me.

the shadow knows

OC Dolphin,

google did a good job describing his arrogance that cost him a major title, just as you described. the british open is my favorite tournament, and i think that john daly won the title once, way after his "fall from grace" owing to his incessant drinking.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

chile is the reigning champion of the americas, and until your guys in blue and white defeats them, i'd say that they are well-lined up for the WC next summer with a talented and experienced squad in their red, white, and blue.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

chile dominant and just hit one off the crossbar. they are all over the young krauts.

Big Baby

Looking at the current fifa ranking (which are a joke of course) Argentina #2 Chile # 4. Mexico at 17 is nonsense there are at least 5 or more teams ahead of them that shouldn't be.

the shadow knows

ONE BREAK, AND 1-1 IT IS!!!

#14 for germany really hustled the ball up the pitch, got it into the corner where an excellent cross found stindl (?) who bounced it into the net. an excellent match that chile really had in control until that one breakout into chile's side of the field.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

well, i guess el tri will need a draw or better to move on. they had most of the "A" team sitting for new zealand, but me thinks they will get the draw they need, even though playing in russia. i trust your assessment on how good they are, and if so they should be able to handle the russkis.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

your team picks a duke player who is not despicable!!! jayson tatum is a decent fella, not your basic laettner or grayson allen from the little that i have seen of him. his mom is young and if she lost 30 lbs. she'd be a model; musta had him conceived when she was in her teens

the shadow knows

NO SURPRISE HERE:

ifs the refs hadn't fouled zach collins out of the NCAA final, the zags would have cut down the nets. the guy showed a ton of talent and i don't go out on a limb for NBA talent, but the ole shadow gave you kawhi leonard and methinks that zach collins will make it in the pros.

Jimbo

I have to contribute something, might as while be worthwhile.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kx6QSNStSc

OC Dolphin

Jimbo,

Funny stuff there. Gives new meaning to the term - pink dumbbell.

Big Baby

Looks like the Lakers are tied to the Ball family OC. Not sure that ends well should have drafted someone else no?

Big Baby

Dangelo Russell pick a bust too I guess not good. My team isn't impressing much either looks like Butler could have been had but Ainge decided to hoard his abundant picks.

Big Baby

Porzingas could have been had as well high price but maybe worth it.

Big Baby

Both teams tied at the hip if LA finishes outside the 2-5 draft pick range next year Boston's number one from Philly is unprotected. Boston might be in trouble if they get Paul George. Brook Lopez is a good player they should sign him long term if possible.

OC Dolphin

I'm onboard with it, BB, and from a number of fronts. First, Ball is a Bruin and LA guy. I place his dad in the Earl Woods camp. Overtly zealous, but look at the results. Second, "addition by subtraction." Ball will be able to develop much faster without having Russell around to share the lead. Third, they got rid of that incredibly stupid contract they (Jim Buss) had with Timothy Mozgov. When you crunch the numbers you see that the Lakers are on the hook for $2M Given this move. That's $15.3M + $5.6M respectfully to Mozgov and Russell, versus what they picked up with Lopez ($22.6M). However, Magic and co. Would have been saddled an additional two years and $33M for Mozgov.

All points considered, I like were they are. They have two of the last two year's overall #2 picks in Ingram and Ball, solid young support with: Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and Larry Nance jr. And I really, really like the young center - Ivica Zubar. Toss in Brook Lopez and a few oldsters to keep the team blended and like I said, I'm good.

Oh...let's not forget about that gain of $33M salary-cap relief to use to go fishing!

Big Baby

Being a Bruin and an LA guy has not much to do with anything. You seemed to have changed your tune on this enjoy the Kool Aid.

Big Baby

They still just traded a number two pick that sets you back unless they sign Lopez long term.

OC Dolphin

Of course it does, BB. Maybe not from a team standpoint, but it makes a big difference to me. I've always cheered louder for Bruins. Kareem, Wilkes, Farmar. Even when not Lakers: Westbrook. Davis, Kiki, etc...

OC Dolphin

Please, let's not talk about wasted (DionJordan) picks! Again, addition by subtraction.

OC Dolphin

I actually liked Russell. He's going to shine for the Nets.

OC Dolphin

Im sure Magic sees a bit of himself in the pick:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=67PQjiN4WQw

Big Baby

How about Paul Pierce from Inglewood? Nah didn't think so. It's addition by subtraction if they sign Lopez if not a wasted pick. It will be interesting to see how Russell does in Brooklyn he has potential.

Big Baby

Oh you said Bruins doesn't count I guess. NBA coverage has been a bit much recently I am ready for football.

OC Dolphin

You're wrong. I always gave The Truth a pass.

Mr. Woodcock

I told you three years ago that kid Russel wasn't the pick, OC.

Big Baby

Amazing he fell to number 10 pick what a great player he was. Almost died in that stabbing early in his career he was lucky.

Big Baby

I remember that woodcock.

OC Dolphin

BB, my son recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA, the wife did her Masters in Communications from UCLA and I frequently bought chips from the vending machines at UCLA, hahahahaha...

I am sure they were Sun Chips OC.

WHAT IS IN THE WATER IN PORTLAND?

okay, greg oden was ages ago, but justin jackson is recent and even as a fan of the tar heels, gott say that justin jackson was the most inconsistent player in the country. his shot, which really has nice form, was so bad last year he was shooting air balls at the the end of the game with the zags. it is possible that with the pressure of being the #1 cat at UNC gone he'll straighten out, but i see the d-league on his horizon!!

Big Baby

They did get your guy Collins though didn't they shadow?

Fzb3346

I'm in, sooo what are we talking about today?

Fzb3346

so the Heat got some big black dude from Kentucky named Bam, is this cat any good?

I say I trust Jedi Master Riley and his basketball knowledge so I'm not gonna bash the pick....on to free agency.

the shadow knows

OUR CROSSTOWN RIVALS:

being a pac ? chauvinist, i want all the teams to do well, especially the bruins. it is no fun when we collide in football when one or both of us have had lousy seasons. i want the bruins undefeated when we hook up in november, and same for us. as good as sam darnold was last year, getting the feeling the he will fall off slightly but still remain great. the bruins have a star type QB and it should be o=intersting. bill walton can get on one's nerves (despite being my favorite basketball ever) but when he call the pac ? the conference of champions, he is pretty correct. stanford is the perennial winner of the award to the school that has the most success in all the sports. STANFORD!!! golf, tennis, ping pong,... but they do win. and as for the bruins, they have produced some of my favorite players-walton, gary began, mel farr, sidney wicks (although he deprived USC of a chance to get to the tournament with our vest team ever-28-2, with two losses to UCLA and no second place teams allowed by the conference to go anywhere. that was as good a bunch as USC has ever had: westphal, mo layton, ron riley and a deep, deep bench. that season was heartbreaking, think it was 1970-71. undefeated except for two losses to the national champions.

Mr. Woodcock

He's not going to shine for shit with the Nets.

Mr. Woodcock

What happened to that big stiff from Duke that the Sixers signed right after the Lakers took Russel? I haven't heard one word about that guy since he was drafted. I don't even think he's with the Sixers anymore.

Mr. Woodcock

Shadow, this kid Ball, who you hate his jump shot, may just make you a believer a few months from now.

"Hopefully..."

Wassup, OC!

Oh, boy.

Mr. Woodcock

Oye, are you living in Jax now? How close are you to Jacksonville Beach? I was there in 2007 and it looks just like South Beach did in the 60s.

Fzb3346

and this is why the NFL is numero uno people...and its not even close.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/06/23/robert-kraft-amazon-deal-shows-where-nfl-is-headed-on-tv/#comments

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

i guess they did via some convoluted trade. wouldn't say i am quite as high on him as i was on kawhi leonard, but the few minutes the guy was allowed to play against UNC he was a terror. hope justin jackson turns out to be good, but how in the world did he win ACC player ofnthe year over luke kennard, who had a great, great year for the blue devils. gotta remember i was living in san diego and saw many of kawhi leonard's games at SDSU where he was on a very good team and was a very good leader. his astronomical climb in the NBA even caught me short, but the feller is a serious, all-around fantastic player and a good guy. silent on the court and focused on the game. too bad that his ankle got stepped on in this year's NBA playoffs-the spurs might have won that first game and maybe one more. the ole shadow here saw a very limited sample size of zach collin's college career, but what i saw was enough to convince me he was a first round pick as a back-up freshman center. so now i can root for two teams in the western conference. why is the world did the heat, who all said was =in need of a shooter, take another big guy when they have hassan whiteside? i guess this bam fellow is going to be their strong forward, but they seem to still need a shooter from outside the obnoxious 3 point line.

Fzb3346

hey did any Cuban players get drafted last night?..

Mr. Woodcock

Wow. All you LA guys who grew up watching UCLA when Wooden was there love college basketball. Not me. Except for that kid Ball I don't know one single name on that draft list. Not one.

Mr. Woodcock

Shadow, is the "A" silent in Lonzo?

WTF?

Is that a misspelling or was it Ebonics?

(the real) david in los angeles

FZB..

apparently he's a freakish athlete who can defend multiple positions and is a great shot blocker.

i'm not versed in the college game either, but this pick has the blessing of riley AND john calipari. riley has deep kentucky roots and those 2 guys i trust implicitly.

he gives us even more power in the paint, and if we lose willie reed, (which is looking like more of a possibility), he can play the 5 as well.

and yes.. on to free agency.

if i am a laker fan i am excited right now; magic johnson, of all people, decided ball was the point guard of the future and that is quite an endorsement.
with mosgov's money gone, i would make that move for paul george immediately; if you wait, anything can happen.

Big Baby

shadow I hope you are right on Tatum they need him to be a contributing starter fast. Your type of player good shooter from inside three.

Big Baby

seems he may have been their second choice. Josh Jackson pulled a Lavar ball and said he wasn't playing for Boston. We will see who turns out better.

Fzb3346

what's up David..still in the 305 until this coming weekend, but we'll stay in touch with this blog and text..football is coming up baby.

Yeah I was reading this guy Bam is a clone (body wise) of Dwight Howard which is fine by me, we needed a backup big, now we need to re sign Johnson and Waiters, I don't think the guy from Utah is going anywhere..and Paul George is still out there but I think he's going to LA..

Fzb3346

hey maybe we can get that tall skinny Russian guy from the Knicks, shit Phil Jackson is senile.

Big Baby

Ainge passed on Porzingis the asking Price was two firsts Crowder and Jaylen brown. I would have done it. Miami doesn't have that type of draft capital.

(the real) david in los angeles

miami doesn't need that type of "draft capital"; in fact, miami has never had that type of "draft capital" in over 20 years. we don't suck as much as boston did to get all those picks.
this was, (i think), our 3rd lottery pick in 20 years.

and i agree with ainge actually.
when i heard that asking price i thought it was ridiculous, to be honest.
TWO first rounders AND jae crowder, a solid multi positional defender with a good shot?

fuck that.. lol

(the real) david in los angeles

FZB, i hope you are as excited about the d league prospects we lined up yesterday as i am.

much the same way we lead the way to small positionless basketball, we're also showing the rest of the league how to utilize the d league; with the right scouting team, it's a goldmine for great talent at rookie type salaries.

whiteside, mcgruder, tyler johnson, white and others have come from the D league and it's an amazing way to mitigate a dearth of draft picks.

Big Baby

Just stating a fact. Boston didn't suck dummy they fleeced Brooklyn and traded down. Don't start wilting like a pansy that's been in the sun too long.

WATCHED SOME OLD NFL GAMES OF THE WEEK:

first week 13 of 67 when the rams needed a win to stay alive in the then coastal division race, and got a miracle punt block and last minute TD to stay alive for...

week 14 against the then 11-0-2 colts who came in just needing a tie to keep the 10-1-2 out of the picture; rams won 34-10 and then got to go on the road to GB despite their better record. the pack behind travis (roadrunner) williams eliminated them. it was a hoot to watch the boyhood heroes- deacon, merlin, gabe, eddie meadow and the great coach george allen, who in two seasons took a horrible team and had them beating the above mentioned powers and getting into the playoffs. had a great time!

the shadow knows

Mr. Woodcock,

watching the ,mid 60s -mid 70s bruin basketballers was easy-they had the best player in america eight years running in KAJ.sidney wicks>walton. and might have had the best player in 64 in walt hazard and 65 in gail goodrich. of course there were other titans of the game in those years-elfin hayes, jimmy walker, wes unseld, the pistol, and many many more. but they were not surrounded by the talent that went to westwood to be coached by wooden. those were the pre-cable days when we went to games and then raced home to watch replays that came on at 11:30. it was a magnificent era for basketball in LA and we had some decent teams at USC, but none that could topple the bruins, despite beating them once in KAJ's senior year (40-35 slowdown game) and in 69-70 when i was at NYU and foretold of the great team we had, and i mean really great in 70-71 that went 28-2, but unfortunately dropping two games to the bruins that kept us out of even the NIT, as the league did not allow the non-champion to play in the then small postseason-the NCAA and the NIT, which i always found to be fun.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

am counting on your appraisal of el tri, and will turn on the computer to see if mexico got their result against the host country. hope you are right in a big way!!

excuse me?

you team sucked for many years which is how you stockpiled all of those picks.

i'm not talking about the extra pick THIS year.

as for whining, that would be the little bitch who has seem ONE RING in 30 years.

the same little bitch crying about the warriors instead of figuring out how to stop them.

spare us baby.
when we want to hear from carpet bagging weaklings who cry when better teams win, then we'll ask for your opinion.. lol

(the real) david in los angeles

"we're getting cousins"!

"we're getting whiteside"!

"we're getting love"!

"we're getting durant"!

huh? the warriors got durant?

waaaaaaaaaa! they have a super team!!

my pussy hurts and this isn't fair!!!!

fuck off.. lol

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

what a wild game and victory for el tri, who gave up many chance that the russkis couldn't convert. the winner by "chuki" was incredible-a short mexican win the race to the ball and heads it over a much taller goalkeeper from way out. they both had goals taken back, and now it is el tri waiting to see if the much, much taller and faster krauts or the experienced chileans will be on the pitch against them on thursday. a foursome of portugal-champions of europe, chile-champs of the americas, germany and mexico. a win in the semis for el tri will solidify your contention that they belong in the top 5 or so, but i don't think it will happen unless they play flawlessly, which they didn't do today.

Big Baby

I saw the highlights both great goals by Mexico. If they ever really put it together for a full match they will be a force but good teams often win by one goal. They still haven't lost a regulation match of consequence in quite some time.

OC Dolphin

So, I'm reading this morning's news and run into this bit of fun:

Tom Brady takes on sumo wrestler during trip to Asia http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2017/06/25/tom-brady-takes-on-sumo-wrestler-during-trip-to-asia.html

When you stop to think about it it's like him not taking a sack, preferring to take on the defensive lineman.

OC Dolphin

...although, not wearing the traditional sumo diaper was probably a good move on his part. Way too close to his real life where he's oftentimes seen crying to the officials.

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

mexico is in deep on thursday; chile has a real chance against portugal and methinks it will be chile/germany in the final, as stated here previously. of course i would be thrilled if el tri won, but the krauts are too big and fast fir the smaller but maybe quicker mexicans. the semis were where mexico needed to land to take the heat off their coach, and they made it. doesn't help that el tri is banged up for the semi.

the shadow knows

OC Dolphin,

very funny re tom brady and the refs. maybe the wife should have tried it in the sumo diaper!!!

the shadow knows

Big Baby,

your confidence in el tri is admirable. true they haven't lost much recently, but germany is a beast even when playing the third string.long and strong legs and an incredible coach in löew, who is stoic on the sidelines always. have never seen him "go off", but his team is usually in command of things.
